Careers

Foods, Water, Natural medicines, Traditional medicines

Description

Part of the Nasivvik Centre’s mandate involves providing support for research and training of post-graduate fellows in new, innovative areas of research of importance to Inuit health. Applications are invited from post-doctoral trainees whose research focuses on an issue related to one or more of the 3 themes identified by the Nasivvik Centre. The connection to and importance of the research for Inuit health must be explicitly described in the application. The submission of projects that are being conducted in cooperation with an Inuit community or organization, which include in-community research time, and that have a high probability of contributing to the understanding of a specific Inuit environmental health issue and the trainee’s education in Inuit health is strongly encouraged.

Eligibility requirements

The program is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada at the time of the application.

  • A candidate must hold, or be completing a PhD or a health professional degree (or equivalent) at the time of application.
  • Candidates with more than five years of post-doctoral research training by the competition deadline are not eligible to apply for this award.
  • Individuals wishing to undertake post-doctoral research training in the same research environment (e.g., same department, supervisor or co-supervisor) in which they received their PhD are not eligible for this position.
  • Eligible Inuit and other Aboriginal post-graduate researchers are strongly encouraged to apply.

Amount

Fellowships shall be awarded annually. If funds are available, renewals will be considered and will be judged on the basis of satisfactory performance and progress as reviewed by the selection committee, conditional to the Nasivvik Centre obtaining renewed funding from the CIHR.
