Panorama: infectious disease protection information system

SI-PMI includes the Immunization module which supports the Québec Vaccination Registry.

The Québec Vaccination Registry is a province-wide electronic database that will record all vaccinations received by anyone in Quebec. It replaces certain local and regional vaccination registries. It is important to specify that the introduction of the Vaccination Registry does not discharge an establishment from its responsibility of keeping local files.

Starting in June 2014 and running until December 2018, this Registry is being introduced progressively in all regions of Quebec. Once the deployment is completed, it will offer the following:

 For health professionals who may give vaccinations, the Registry is a tool that:

  • Provides fast access anywhere in Quebec to a person’s vaccination history (if entered in the Registry).
  • Helps prevent the administration of unnecessary vaccine doses.

 For public health authorities, the Registry is a tool that:

  • Supports work directed towards public health protection in the event of an outbreak of diseases that are avoidable through vaccination.
  • Provides access to a person’s vaccination history, no matter where they were vaccinated.
  • Ensures rapid communication with vaccinated individuals in the event that a vaccine lot is recalled.
  • Ensures better follow-up in vaccination programs and minimize lost vaccination opportunities by following the recommended schedule in the Quebec Immunization Protocol.

It is mandatory for all vaccinators or health professionals who may give vaccinations to record their vaccinations.

In collaboration with the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ), the FNQLHSSC is currently providing support for the deployment of SI-PMI in the First Nations communities.
