Registration in faculties of medicine

The registration is open for First Nations and Inuit students at the CEGEP and university levels. Students can apply to one of the four Quebec faculties of medicine (Université Laval, Université de Montréal, McGill University or Université de Sherbrooke) until March 1, 2018. There are now more than 40 students registered in or who have graduated from one of the four faculties of medicine (37 students registered and 3 doctors). Four spots will be available in 2018.

Launch of a promotional video

A promotional video has been produced in order to encourage First Nations and Inuit youth to register in the QFNIFMP. Various stakeholders provide a detailed overview of the program and some former and current students speak about their own experience as part of this program.

Internships in First Nations communities and Inuit villages

Each year, the internships are held in 12 to 15 First Nations communities and Inuit villages. In 2018, the four-week internships will take place on July 2–27. The goal is to give First Nations, Inuit and non-Aboriginal students a healthcare and cultural experience.

Gathering of students

A gathering of QFNIFMP students and graduates is slated for May 2018, in Québec City. This event will be an excellent opportunity to socialize and share among peers. The objective of this gathering is to get to know each other, share experiences and develop networks of professionals.

Research-assessment program

A research and assessment program is being developed for activities carried out since the QFNIFMP’s implementation in 2008. It will also be used to monitor the various activities to recruit and raise awareness among future doctors.
