Community Mobilization for Healthy Lifestyles & Diabetes Prevention
June 25 – 27, 2014 at Kahnawake Territory

The goal of the Community Mobilization for Healthy Lifestyles & Diabetes Prevention Training (CMT) is to share the successful experiences of the Kahnawake Schools Diabetes Prevention Project (KSDPP) health promotion model with local and other Indigenous community organizations and individuals working with Indigenous communities. This three-day workshop will provide information, facilitates discussion and engages participants to plan community actions for healthy lifestyles & diabetes prevention. Successful KSDPP experiences are used as examples throughout the CMT.

Upon completion of the Community Mobilization Training participants will:
1. Understand the theoretical background for successful healthy lifestyles programming.
2. Be able to identify community values in relation to healthy lifestyles & diabetes prevention.
3. Develop a shared community vision for healthy lifestyles & diabetes prevention.
4. Understand the importance of teamwork, how to build a Community Advisory Board, identify potential members, and understand the nature and activities of volunteers.
5. Conduct an environmental scan to identify key goals, objectives and strategies for the planning and successful implementation of healthy lifestyles & diabetes prevention planning.
6. Understand different types of community intervention activities, the steps in planning activities, the development of community activity calendars, and activity evaluation.
7. Develop an dissemination program to promote healthy lifestyles and diabetes prevention.
