• Inauguration of a new building for DYP in Puvirnituq
Oct 16, 2014
Puvirnituq, October 14, 2014 – On a tour of Nunavik, the Minister Responsible for Rehabilitation, Youth Protection and Public Health, Lucie Charlebois, stopped in Puvirnituq today to inaugurate the new building to be occupied by the Direction of Youth Protection (DYP). “This new facility, designed to optimise the quality of services offered to youth and families, will allow them to be better served in a friendlier and safer environment for all. This management of space and resources is inspired by an innovative and proven approach applied elsewhere in our network,” declared
Ms. Charlebois.

With a surface area of 1,415 square meters on two floors, the new building benefited from a $12,766,000 investment. It is a green construction with high environmental efficiency for reduced energy consumption. The project was made possible through close collaboration between the ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux, the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services and the Inuulitsivik Health Centre. In addition to facilities for workers, the building features space for families,
with among other things, a kitchenette and a play area. It also houses administrative services and management.

Configuration of the building was determined based on the most successful approaches in the delivery of youth protection services, and in consideration of the region’s unique particularities. Several consultations were held with youth centers and various experts to ensure the most suitable response to the needs of children, youth and their parents.
“This project shows that the well-being of youth and families in Nunavik is of constant concern to our government and leaders of the Inuit communities. We take to heart providing the best possible services to support their full development,” the Minister concluded.
