• Joint review (AFN-FNIHB) of the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program
Jul 25, 2016

The joint review (AFN-FNIHB) of the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program began a few months ago and is slated to continue until March 2017. The review is being overseen by a steering committee composed of a fair representation of First Nations members and FNIHB staff. Each benefit area will be examined separately and become the subject of a dedicated report. A final report will be issued at the end of the joint review process to present all the findings and recommendations as well as an action plan for their implementation.

The objectives of the program’s joint review process are to:

  • Enhance client access to health care and services;
  • Identify problems and fill in service gaps;
  • Streamline service delivery to be more responsive to client needs;
  • Increase program efficiency.

All program benefits will be reviewed according to a pre-established timeline.

The communities, health care workers, First Nations clients and service providers will be invited to provide input on each component of the program.
