• An activity promoting healthy lifestyle habits offered to the participants of the 5th First Nations Youth Summit
Nov 01, 2016

As part of the AFNQL First Nations Youth Summit, which took place September 17-18, 2016 in the community of Odanak, the FNQLHSSC was invited, as in previous years, to present an activity on healthy lifestyle habits.

The focus of the activity was the interpretation of the natural environment in relation to Abenaki culture. Michel Durand Nollet, a community member and forestry technician known for his knowledge of medicinal plants, guided us along a trail linking the Kiuna Institution to the community. The goal was to walk the trail to learn about the fauna present in the woodland and medicinal plants found in the wild.

Back at Kiuna Institution, participants received a questionnaire enabling them to review the information learned during the activity. A prize for participating was awarded by way of a drawing. Fifty young people took part in the activity and the organizers were very pleased with the event.
