• The AFNQL Recognizes the Government of Quebec’s Important Step Forward
Dec 21, 2016
Wendake, December 21, 2016 – As the Couillard government announced that it will implement the public inquiry, which has been demanded for more than a year, on the relations between police services and the First Nations, the AFNQL would like to emphasize that society at large is  now moving towards reconciliation. We would also like to salute all the women who had the  courage to undertake this process.

"In the face of adversity, our sisters, our families and our people never give up. It is thanks to them today that we are at this stage to recognize that systemic racism and discrimination is a priority and that measures must be put in place to combat them in Quebec. The Government of Premier Couillard has achieved it and it should be noted, "said AFNQL Chief Ghislain Picard.

« The sense of security and trust between our people and policing services must be restored, and this commission presents an opportunity to build a more harmonious relationship at several levels. I welcome the setting up of this commission of inquiry” declared Adrienne Jérôme.

“Thousands of people signed a petition demanding a public inquiry and several groups wrote to express their support, thanks to which the public inquiry is now under way. The AFNQL would like to thank them and state that their support was instrumental and will remain important throughout this inquiry, which will certainly be very challenging. Our leaders will continue supporting the women of our Nations who are at the heart of this process to remind them that they are not alone in the long march towards justice that begins today and from which all of society will benefit,” concludes AFNQL Chief Ghislain Picard.
