On August 28, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that new ministers would now support the renewed relationship with Indigenous peoples.

Jane Philpott (who held the Health Portfolio) and current incumbent Carolyn Bennett will be responsible for Indigenous issues. Philpott will serve as Minister of Indigenous Services and Bennet has been appointed Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs.

Minister Philpott will address problems affecting the wellness of Indigenous people, including health and clean water, while Minister Bennett will be responsible for treaty rights.
