• A toolkit on the contribution of the First Peoples elders to the wellness of the communities
Feb 20, 2018

The FNQLHSSC is pleased to announce the upcoming launch of the toolkit based on the contributions by the First Peoples elders to the wellness of the communities. The FNQLHSSC collaborated in this project with a research team at Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, coordinated by ergotherapist Chantal Viscogliosi.

The research team carried out a synthesis of knowledge concerning the contributions by Aboriginal elders to the wellness of people and communities. To promote the best representativeness possible, this work was done in partnership with several communities of different First Nations in Quebec.

This toolkit has been developed to provide avenues for action by the communities, the Native Friendship Centres, the health centres, the schools and other interested organizations. It contains info-sheets on the different means taken by elders to improve wellness. These include, for example, their contributions in the schools, the organization of community events and the transmission of knowledge, along with contributions as consultants for the development of policies and services and as counsellors for conjugal or personal problems. The toolkit will be available in French and English, in both written and audio versions. An illustrated version will also be available.

The toolkit will be put online within the next few weeks. As soon as it is launched and made available, the FNQLHSSC will send you the address so that you can draw inspiration from actions based on promising practices.
